Choppers and graters at Night Owl
The chopper here is the Geepas GC5477N: a 0.5L bowl with a twin blade on a lift-off shaft. It is the machine you reach for when a recipe starts with onion, garlic, ginger and green chilli and you would rather not wash a whole blender jar afterwards.
How to choose
A chopper is not a small blender. It pulses food against a blade in a dry bowl, so it dices and minces but will not puree without liquid, and it bruises herbs the moment you let the motor run on. Bowl size is really the whole decision: 0.5L is one curry's worth of prep, and anything bigger than that belongs in a mixer grinder jar.
- A 0.5L bowl handles onion, garlic, ginger and chilli in a few pulses
- Short bursts rather than a continuous run keep the cut even
- The blade lifts off its shaft so the bowl washes out under the tap
- For wet grinding or bigger batches, use a mixer grinder jar instead
