The Panasonic irons divide cleanly in two. The steam models, NI-S530V, NI-S430G, NI-S430R, NI-M300TV, NI-M300TA and the coloured NI-M250TG and NI-M250TP, carry a water tank and push steam out through the soleplate. The dry models, the NI317TPTC and the heavyweight NI-22AWT, have no tank at all and work on heat and pressure alone.

Steam or dry

Steam is faster on cotton, linen and anything that has been folded in a cupboard, because the moisture relaxes the fibre for you. A dry iron has nothing to fill, nothing to leak onto a white shirt and nothing to descale, which keeps it the sensible pick where the water is hard or where someone irons all day. The heavyweight model does with mass what a steam iron does with water.
