Philips Dry Irons at Night Owl

Every iron on this page is a dry iron, with no tank, no vents and no water to fill. The Classic HD1172 and the HD1182/28 are the familiar full-sized shape; the GC160 is the lighter body; the DST0600/20 and DST0610/30 are the newer models in the same family.

Why a dry iron

A dry iron gets its results from heat and pressure rather than moisture, and the list of things that can go wrong is much shorter: nothing to spit onto a shirt, nothing to descale, nothing to refill in the middle of a pile of laundry. Keep a spray bottle on the board and damp the fabric where a crease is stubborn, and you recover most of what steam would have given you. They also reach working temperature quickly, which matters when only one shirt needs pressing.

  • No tank, no steam vents and nothing to descale
  • HD1172 and HD1182/28 for a full-sized iron with some weight to it
  • GC160 and the DST bodies when a lighter iron is easier to handle
  • A spray bottle beside the board covers the stubborn creases
