Roti and chapati makers
A roti maker is a hinged press with two non-stick plates: drop a ball of dough on the lower plate, bring the top down, and it flattens and cooks in one movement. There is no rolling pin, no tawa and no standing over a flame turning each round by hand. The Prestige PRM 5 is the press on this page.
How to choose
The plate fixes the size of the bread, so every round comes out at the same diameter — even and quick, though not the hand-stretched shape. Dough behaves differently under a press as well: keep it a little softer than you would for rolling and let it rest, or you get a thick centre with thin edges. A tawa still wins when you want puffed roti with some char on it.
- Non-stick plates that release the bread without oil
- One movement flattens and cooks, so a batch moves quickly
- Handles chapati, khakhra and other small flatbreads
- Stores flat in a cupboard, unlike a board and pin
