India Gate basmati at Night Owl
Every India Gate line on this shelf is basmati, packed two ways: 1KG bags for a small household or a first try at a grade, and 5KG for kitchens that cook rice most days. Basmati Everyday and Rozzana are the workhorses, Dubar is the shorter-grain grade that suits pulao and fried rice, Daily Premium is the longer aged grain, and Brown Rice Active Health keeps the bran on.
How to choose
Grade decides texture more than the label does. Aged long grain stays separate and fluffs up for biryani; a shorter grain drinks more water and holds together in a mixed dish. Take a 1KG pack to test a grade before committing to a 5KG bag, and seal the rice once it is open, because humidity gets into a loose sack fast.
- 1KG packs: Basmati Everyday, Daily Premium and Brown Rice Active Health
- 5KG packs: Basmati Everyday, Rozzana and Dubar
- Brown rice keeps its bran, so it wants a longer soak and more water
- Rinse until the water runs clear, then rest the pot off the heat before fluffing
