The juicer on this page is the Philips Viva Collection HR1832, a centrifugal machine: fruit goes down the feed tube onto a spinning mesh basket, the juice is thrown through the mesh into the jug, and the pulp collects in a bin behind it.

Centrifugal or slow

Centrifugal juicers are quick and they suit hard fruit and vegetables such as apple, carrot, beetroot and pineapple. Slow or masticating machines press instead of spinning, which does better with leafy greens and yields juice that keeps longer, but they ask for more chopping and more time per glass. For most homes the centrifugal one is the machine that actually gets used, because a broad feed tube means whole fruit goes in with little preparation.
