The Daikin FTKL60 is the 1.8 ton unit in Daikin's FTKL inverter range — the size you reach for when a 1.5 ton is going to spend all afternoon running flat out and still lose. Rated at 6.0 kW, or 20,470 Btu/h, it is built for a large bedroom, a full living room, a small office or a shop floor.

What separates an inverter from a fixed-speed unit is what happens after the room is cool. The swing compressor throttles down to as little as 1.75 kW and holds the temperature there, instead of slamming on and off all night. That is quieter, it is gentler on the compressor, and it is why the annual power consumption comes in at 1,161.78 kWh for an ISEER of 4.00, which is what earns it the BEE 3-star label.

Two specifications matter more in Malé than anywhere else. The first is the stabilizer built into the unit: it runs on anything from 130 V to 285 V, so a separate stabilizer box is not part of a normal install. The second is heat tolerance — it is rated to cool at up to 52°C ambient and still puts out 100% of its rated capacity when it is 43°C outside, so the hottest week of the year is not the week it gives up. Air flow is 16.8 m3/min, moisture removal 2.3 litres an hour, and the indoor unit can be dialled from 48 dB(A) down to 32 dB(A) when you want to sleep.

This is a split system, so the indoor unit pairs with the RKL60UV16U outdoor unit and needs a qualified installer. Piping can run up to 25 m with a 20 m height difference between the units, which gives real freedom in where the outdoor unit ends up.
