The JVC XS-N518PB is a party speaker built around a simple, practical idea: the sound should be able to follow the people. It has a telescopic handle and wheels like a piece of luggage, and a rechargeable battery inside, so moving 14.5 kg of speaker from a living room to a rooftop, a jetty or a football ground takes one person and no extension cord.

The front is dominated by two 10 inch drivers stacked behind a black mesh grille and ringed with LED lights that move with the music. Ten inch drivers are what you normally meet in a hired PA cabinet, not in something you wheel in yourself, and they are the reason this fills a courtyard or a function room rather than just a living room. The EQ function pulls the tone back for speech or background music when the occasion is quieter, and the lights switch off when the moment does not call for them.

Two wireless microphones come in the box.
