This is Polycab's 3 core x 2.5 sq mm flexible copper cable in black, sold by the foot and cut to the length you ask for. It is the everyday workhorse for power wiring: socket circuits, air conditioner points, pumps, motors, generator connections and appliance sub-circuits, wherever you need live, neutral and earth to travel together inside one sheath.

Each core is 2.5 sq mm of copper built from 50 fine 0.25 mm strands, which is what makes it flexible. A solid conductor of the same size fights you at every bend and can crack if it is worked back and forth; a stranded conductor pulls through conduit, turns corners and lands in a distribution board without complaint. Each core is PVC insulated, and the three are wrapped in a second PVC sheath that takes the abrasion and keeps moisture off the insulation underneath.

The cable is 1100 V grade to IS 694, the Indian standard for PVC insulated cables for working voltages up to 1100 V, so it sits comfortably above anything a single-phase or three-phase installation will put through it. Polycab is one of the largest wire and cable manufacturers in India.

A few practical notes. This is an unarmoured cable, so anywhere it is exposed to knocks or crushing it should run inside conduit or trunking rather than clipped bare. It is not intended for direct burial in the ground. Circuit protection should always be sized to the cable and the load by the person doing the installation, following the wiring rules that apply — the current a cable can carry depends on how it is installed, bunched and ambient temperature, not on the cross-section alone.
