Description
The Prestige PWG 07 is a table-top wet grinder built for the job a mixer cannot do properly: grinding soaked rice and dal into smooth, aerated batter for idli, dosa and vada.
The difference is in how it works. A mixer chops with fast blades, which heats the batter and breaks the fermentation. A wet grinder rolls stones slowly against the wall of a drum, crushing the soaked grain rather than cutting it. The batter comes out smoother, stays cooler, and rises properly overnight. This is the reason a wet grinder remains a separate appliance in kitchens that already own a blender.
The drum holds 2 litres and is stainless steel, so it will not stain from turmeric or hold the smell of a fermented batch. It locks into four tilting positions: upright angles that keep the batter circulating under the stones while it grinds, and a forward tilt for pouring the finished batter out without wrestling the drum off the base. The 200 W motor is deliberately geared for a slow, sustained grind, and an overload protector cuts it out if the load gets too heavy rather than letting it cook itself.
Two attachments come in the box and extend it well beyond batter. The coconut scraper mounts on the drive and takes the flesh out of a fresh coconut straight from the shell. The atta kneader turns the same machine into a dough kneader for chapati, which is the kind of ten-minute hand job that is worth handing to a motor.
The housing is moulded ABS in black and orange, wipeable and built for the splashing that comes with wet grinding. The unit measures 300 × 300 × 285 mm, so it puts down about the footprint of a dinner plate and goes back in a cupboard between uses.
