Usha

Usha ceiling fans

Usha is here as ceiling fans, both from the Apollo family: the 1200MM Apollo LX and the wider 1400MM Apollo EX. The number is the sweep, the diameter the blades cover, and it is the one figure that decides whether a fan suits a room.

A 1200MM sweep is the standard bedroom fan, moving enough air over a bed and a wardrobe without the draught turning into a nuisance. Step up to 1400MM for a sitting room, a long room, or one where the seating is pushed out towards the walls. Height matters as well: a fan mounted flush against the slab breathes less than one dropped on a short downrod, so give it a little clearance if the ceiling allows.

• 1200MM Apollo LX for a bedroom or a small room
• 1400MM Apollo EX for a sitting room or a long space
• Match the sweep to the room before you compare anything else
• Wipe the blades every few months, since coastal dust cakes on the leading edge and unbalances them
